THINGS I LIKE

1. Banana's… got to have one everyday..

2. High Heels…yes, as tall as I am, I love heels, they have a way of changing the whole look....Paris Hilton Shoes, Beth Pumps

3. Love and basketball……the movie..it is so chic, and heart warming…very romantic..maybe because it reminds me of a guy I had a huge crush on…hehehe

4. My legendary girlfriend……a novel by my favourite fiction author Mike Gayle, I have read all nine novels of Mike but I cant get enough of this one. Its about a guy who cant seem to get over his first love and still looking for the one just like his ex… it’s a chic and guy flick… what I love about this author is that he writes from both a man and woman perceptive…PLUS his English humor is just infectious...lol…

5. Make up .........Without it, am NAKED…

6. My Husband Ken  went to California 2 years ago and  bought me a purple sundress, I wear it with heels, with sandals, with anything I still look pretty.... I love it!

7. H&M stores…wonder when they are going to open one here…....They sell everything a woman needs!

8. Huge Chunky Bangles…..lost count how many I have, …

9. Red Roses....... What else can a woman say?

10. Last but not least….Sunlight soap… this is a wonder multi-purpose soap, since I was a baby my mother bathed me with it, I still use it to date..........I use the soap for my face as well… best invention EVER!.…

Family Union

I met all my in-laws( read in - loves) two weeks ago. I had met Ken's mother, and brother in 2009 in London, I was excited and anxious to be meeting his two sisters- Judy and Joan.
The two weeks I spent with them was filled with immense warmth and love. This is a family rich with Love.

From the moment I met them, I knew I was a part of them. By the time they were leaving, we all had very teary goodbyes.

Ken and I took leave from work so as to host them. We booked vacation and took them around the country. From the Kenyan coastline to the Masai Mara to the depths of the Rift Valley, we had a wonderful time!

They were happy to be home after 12 years! They came home and found that life had moved on, without them, despite them, because of them, they missed out on many things, babies were born, grew up, talked, walked, people got married, divorced and some even remarried. Goverments fell and others took power, trees were felled and river dried up! indeed its been a long time.

Other than meeting Ethan and myself, they wanted to see their country, meet their relatives, go places and soak up every minute and every experience.....
I can imagine their excitement when the flight captain announced, "mamabibi na mabwana…tumewasili nyumbani!'

We enjoyed the sandy white beaches of Mombasa, the evening sea breeze at the Sarova Hotel, the sea food was tasty, the cocktails.... everything was magical.

Masai Mara was wonderful! we stayed at the Mara Sopa Lodge. The game-drives were exciting. We got to see the big 5 up close and personal, the hyena feeding at 10p.m, massai dancing, Robert and Ken enjoyed having a cold Tusker under the big African skies...

While at home, I got to sample and try out different recipes with the girls. Ken's mother can make the best fish!
Judy and Joan were excellent with Ethan. They sang him songs, put him to bed, bathed him and feed him. After afew days, Ethan was in love with his aunties. I guess its also because, they are fabolus;they make an effort to look good. From their hair, to fashion sense, these girls are on top of things!

Ethan was spoilt rotten! He got enough gifts to last him another year. The memories are indeed great!
We laughed together, played together, prayed together, watched the sunset together, dined together over great wine! All the small things that make life so beautiful......
Judy and Joan left on Saturday for Los Angeles, Robert leaves tomorrow for London and mum will be here until end of March.

It was sad to say goodbye to Judy and Joan. I hope we shall have a wonderful time with Mum. - I really hope to see them in September during Judy's wedding.

Anyway, I could recount family anecdotes and events ad nauseum but I realise they only mean what they mean, to me. And my skewed sense of belonging to these people- my family!!

I see though, that this longing in me draws from our culture. The unwritten rule that calls you to love. Because your brother, sister, mother, father are your family. And THAT is who you are.
I ask myself now how I have got by for so long on crumbs of the meal that mean the most to me. Well. That right there is what life teaches you... to cherish what you have, who are and where you have been, in the moments that are given to you. Because each one of those things is rich. Amazingly so........

All my love,

Emma K!

His Daily Dose:

Ethan has a new walker! Its blue, its new, its interesting.

Seeing him moving around the house making all the sounds as he plays with his walker confirms to me that he is a boy indeed! So far, I have realised he loves music, anything that can produce some sort of melody , he loves... thank Goodness his walker does this and much  more!

Everyday at 12.45 p.m when i go home for lunch, he is on his walker... Happy to see his mummy, all he can say for now is" dada, dada, dada" . I guess that's his way of saying hallo mummy? How was your day at work? If i find him having his lunch, he will not eat! He will protest... to him, its mummy time.

He will pull my hair, my earrings and even try and lick my face( I guess that's his way of kissing )
Play time is really fun time. We go on the floor with all the toys( they all produce sound ) and play really hard. Ethan laughs so hard. This is priceless!

He is always happy to see his mummy. I miss him when am at work.
His daddy is coming over this weekend, its going to be exciting for Ethan. Hopefully we shall go to the beach too...My two boys  will play and laugh.

I guess this is what raising children is all about. Showing them that its the little things that should make them happy! Even without the expensive toys, its still a beautiful world.

Ken and I are committed to Ethan's life, to teach and reteach and laugh along the way.

My love,

Emma K

The news of 2012

The year is new! A fresh aroma is in the air, ambitions are high, and everyone has high expectations for 2012.

..P.r.o.c.r.a.s.t.i.n.a.t.i.o.n.  is the name of the disease I have suffered long enough! If it was cancerous maybe it would have eaten up  all the cells in my body!
This year, I have vowed to get everything finished! Once I get started,  I Will not rest until its done! From my MBA class project ,  I my weight loss program, book writing and my giving my tithe! yes, my 10% .

Having been on a 2 weeks Christmas break, I had a lot of thinking  to do, taking stock of the year and I found that I had nothing to show but sketches of unfinished work and projects. Was I a busy body in 2011? What did i get done? Nothing seems to have been completed. I have now taken up new projects and I plan on finishing some of the ones in file 13, I have to beg the angels for about 72 more hours in the next two days to get my work done!

With many shoes to wear, I have to find time to finish everything I plan to do. Yes! Ethan is a full time job, but I have to work around  that and get things moving. I have so much on my to do list, first things first, I have to graduate my MBA. For the last 12 days I have been on my project and I think my professor can now have a copy next week Thursday!

Saturday will see me clear my closet and give away anything I have not worn for the last 3 months because it either be too big, too small or simply does not belong to me. This year, am travelling light, I guess its because I want to get there faster.

Having all this resolutions on paper is one thing, getting them done is another.
Aiii! I find myself here too often and swear blind how I will never ever let myself get here again and just like a drug addict who can't quite punish themselves enough, here I am again, swearing blind.
I will not give up on my self.  Like a diamond I need some pressurized heat to be brilliant.

Well I guess its time I get down to serious work, 2012 is here, its new  and its time to get some work done!

Enough talking, get it done!

Happy 2012!

Lasts of 2011

The year  has flown right by me, in flashes of rain and rays of sunlight, I sit here now, taking a cup of green tea, clutching at the straws of time I did not want to let go. There's moments I can't recall but some that will forever be etched in my memory.

I remember the 1st of January 2011, all my new year resolutions clearly written down, excited to be carrying the most precious gift, Ken doing the final touches to the house, finishing up on my MBA thesis, I was ready to take on the year.

Its been a great one! Huge challenges, but when I reminisce, I came out stronger and better.

Ethan is 8 months now, his all grown up with a big toothless grin , indeed time flies and the harder you try and grab a hold on it, the faster it melts away.
Ken has an album of Ethan since birth to date! every detail captured!
Globally, we have had our gains and losses too. We have lost many esteemed actors, artists, performers and sporting icons- hopefully, their legacies will leave on. I personally mourn , Steve Jobs, an inventor, entrepreneur and chief executive, he changed the world as we know it.
Amy Winehouse a singer who  had a short but incredibly successful career. Her album ‘Back to Black’,is my all time favourite! She won critical praise as well as a plethora of awards.
Elizabeth Taylor,  a true heavyweight on the silver screen for the  last 60 years, she  was also known for her glamorous lifestyle.

Great Economies have suffered, with prices of crude oil at an ever high, Inflation at the highest! Economists predict that 2012 will not be an ease one-Some things we absolutely no control over.

Kenya is currently in an "operation Linda nchi" Mode, flushing out the outlawed Alshabab Militia- we wish them all the best.
Big thumbs up to Martin Odour Owino and Bob Collymore and other Chief Executives who answered to the Kenya for Kenyan's call. Thousands of hungry Kenyans were fed- Asanteni Sana! we outdid ourselves.

I race my mind and I could write 100 pages, to sum it up, It's been a good year. I look forward to a better one. I am ready to embrace whatever is next, believing this is the best so far. For tomorrow is not guaranteed,  Telling myself that  I can deal with whatever 2012 may bring, I know i can fight this battle as its always a war, On tomorrow. On love. On learning the lesson. On peace of mind and living in and enjoying this moment.
So here is to accepting tomorrow, rainstorms and sleet, bright skies and golden leaves, whatever it will be, I will make the best of it!

Love,

Emma K!
